The engine and gearbox communicate constantly

Modern automatic, dual-clutch and selected automated transmissions use a transmission control unit to decide when and how the gearbox shifts. It also exchanges torque requests and limits with the engine ECU.

An engine calibration can reveal factory shift behaviour that no longer suits the available torque. Where the platform supports it, a matching TCU calibration can improve that coordination without trying to hide a mechanical problem.

Not every gearbox is programmable, and not every vehicle needs TCU work. We identify the transmission and software first, then quote only the work that is supported and useful.

Software cannot repair worn hardware

Harsh shifts, slipping, delayed engagement, overheating or warning messages can indicate a service, adaptation, hydraulic, clutch or internal mechanical concern. Increasing torque before understanding that condition can make a problem worse.

What to know before booking

Does my gearbox need to be tuned with the engine?

Not automatically. It depends on the vehicle, the requested calibration, the gearbox's factory torque strategy and whether its controller is supported. We confirm this before quoting.

Will TCU calibration fix a slipping gearbox?

No. Slipping, overheating, delayed engagement or mechanical wear must be diagnosed and repaired. Calibration is for a mechanically sound, supported transmission.

Can you make every shift faster or harder?

The goal is appropriate, predictable behaviour—not maximum harshness. The specification depends on the transmission, its condition and how the vehicle is used.

Can you calibrate the gearbox without remapping the engine?

Some supported platforms allow useful gearbox-only work. We still inspect the engine software and torque relationship so the two controllers remain properly coordinated.
